OK, so I'm properly studying kanji now, and I think that the best thing I've ever learnt ever about anything ever has to be thus:
The kanji for 'companion' (as opposed to 'friend') is: 朋 (the 'flesh of my flesh' - 'tis cool). And this has an 'ON meaning' (おん) of the katakana: ホウ !! Those of you that can read katakana will know, but for those of you who don't, that is basically 'ho' or more specifically 'hō' with a long 'o'.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA companion = ho. That shit is too fucking funny man. You can't make that shit up...
"Why hello ser, don't you and your ho look well today...
Why thank you, indeed she does. She is a wonderful ho to have..."
Arf! Shame that "your mom ain't nothing but a skank-ass companion" doesn't have quite the same ring to it...
